Karlos,

C.F.I.T.T. November 12, 2011Letter of Intent,Paul Schmitt

Writing a letter of intent seems anti-climactic at this point. Honestly, the last six months of ridding has been with the goal of ridding C.F.I.T.T. As I wake each day, I think about it, every time I get on my bicycle, every pedal stroke. Lynne and I constantly talk about it. So, I have been riding with intent, sleeping with intent, eating with intent, everything I do is with the intent to complete the event.

I have imagined how each mile will feel, churning my legs through each pedal stroke, gliding through the single track, and looking back at the miles that are ahead of me. I am excited to see the places you have been while imagining this year’s event. To see what you have seen, feel how you felt, and finally feel the elation of finishing.

It is an honor to trace this route with my two tires. I revere and respect your vision of this ride, the riders who have ridden before me and those that ride after me. To me this is no small feat, but a personal celebration of accomplishment. Thank-you for imagining it and allowing me to participate;

Sincerely, Paul R. Schmitt Jr.

I hereby declare…

…that it is my intent to participate in the 2011 Cross Florida Individual Time Trial (CFiTT).  I will ride on dirt and sand and gravel and pavement and take little photos of my bike in front of all kinds of odd landmarks.  I will enjoy the weather, terrain and scenery and I will report my ride to friends and colleagues, enticing them to participate next year.

This time, I will not leave my GPS plugged in at the bathroom at Landbridge where it might easily be walked off with by god knows who in the middle of the night, damnit.

I realize that I’m late to the party, but I hope I can make up for it by partying that much harder.
