The Huracan Bikepacking Route

The Huracan Bikepacking Challenge is the ULTIMATE OFF-ROAD ENDURANCE EXPERIENCE in the state of Florida.
The Original route features over 100 miles of singletrack, many remote miles of double-track forest roads and abandoned paths, and a few miles of pavement here and there. During the route, riders cross numerous forests, the Cross Florida Greenway, two mountain bike parks, and miles of some of Florida’s longest and hardest climbs. That’s right; we said long and hard.
Riders are on a self-contained and self-supported expedition on this magnificent, mostly off-road route.
There are 4 route options available.
Original HuRaCaN Route 370 miles of the most challenging Florida terrain. Expect everything you have ever heard about the Huracan from all your friends, with a few more surprises thrown in. This is the route everyone talks about.
The HuRaCaN 400 is the hardest and most challenging conceptualization of the route that has ever been put together. This route premiered in 2024. It is also known as the What The F*** Route.
The HuRaCaN LiTe is a 330-mile gravel bike route, route with almost no singletrack or river crossings. It will combine Dirt roads, A-Roads, B-Roads, Bikepath, and major roads. This is essentially a Skinnier tire tire-friendlier version of the route. The minimum recommended tire width is 45MM.
The HuRaCaN HeaVy is a 350ish-mile route that could be done with a gravel bike. It has more singletrack than its LiTe predecessor. Like the LiTe, it has no river crossings, but it may take some sandy and primitive connectors to have even LESS pavement than the LiTe Route.
What you are purchasing is the information to ride the route. Information will be dispatched to riders on November 15th. This information is licensed per individual and cannot be transferred to another rider, and once the information is shared, it cannot be refunded.
New in 2026, we are renting the entire campground!
Campground access is only allowed for participants who have paid for camping. IF you want to sleep and use the shower facilities, before, during, or after the ride at Shangri La, then you must reserve your camping option today. There will be no camping, boondocking, or sleeping in vehicles allowed in the Day Use area, as has been done in years prior.
Riders are encouraged to start arriving at the Campground as early as February 5th, as on Friday, we will have a shakedown group ride and other surprises in store!
If you are planning to participate in the event and do not need to camp, parking will be available in the day-use area, which begins for you the morning of the ride. Note, day-use riders do not have access to the campground facilities, which include the showers. Contact me directly to coordinate that option.
Riders who want to be scored have to be tracked by Trackleaders and will make a decision on which route they want to ride when they register for that service. Since we embrace and embody the true spirit of bicycle travel, Riders who are touring the route are free to mix and match the 4 routes to their liking.
This event is bound by the rules of self-supported off-road endurance events with a few exceptions. Details will be provided as we get closer to the grand depart.
Once you join the event, riders will be emailed the route information no later than November 15th, 2025. Information will be shared via an RWGPS event link for the route and Google Drive folder access for the guide and other important documents. Final route versions and amendments will be finalized by November 15th, 2025. This year, the grand depart riders will not be told the direction of travel until a coin is flipped 2 hours before the start and an announcement is made.

Rules:
We follow the Tobi Gadd Ultra Rules for riders who want to have their times compared to other riders. The only rules we do not follow are the assistance rule, as riders are free to assist each other. The pre-arranged lodging rule as riders are free to arrange their sleep accommodations ahead of time. And finally, riders are allowed to draft.

Be prepared
ITT format is the original and hardest category to ride. You agree to complete the route under your own power following the self-supported rules with no pre-arranged outside assistance.
Get The Route
Route creation is a tedious task that requires Annual involvement. We ask that folks make a minimal donation of $100 and you will get the route and a patch. The route gets sent as a google drive shared folder. You have to download the route out of the folder to utilize the information. The folder includes:
Route File GPX (need a program to open and view this file)
Route Trail Guide(updated every year once a year)
Route Waypoint files for relevant and key information.
My Brain to pick information from
Make your payment as friends and family and in the notes include your mailing address if you paid for the patch. Patches are available while supplies last. I regularly check the account and send out information and share the file throughout the day, each and everyday. There may be delays if I am out scouting or riding, so please be patient. Dropping me a friendly reminder via email doesnt hurt!
